What is a Sunday FUNday anyway?
It’s on a Sunday: Yes. Well done. You got it!
Generally, alcohol is involved: The Iowa City library currently has an ongoing Sunday FUNday for families to come in and make crafts together, and I bet there’s no booze there. Ours, on the other hand, has bottomless mimosas. Clearly the Quad City Moms Blog is better than the Iowa City library.
It’s not at night: We’re adults. Moms. We have to start early and go to bed early. Some of us might get up early and stay up late. I am of the stay-up-late-to-be-alone persuasion. We’re done at six p.m., so we can get home, do the mom thing, and get to bed. Then we can get up refreshed(ish) and attack the week. We can jump back into getting the kids out the door feeling happier and more relaxed because we got to spend some refreshing time with other moms.
Location: A Sunday Funday can happen anywhere- as long as you’re with friends, having fun, and having a leisurely day. Ours takes place on the patio of the JBar in Davenport.
The vibe: Remember hanging out with your friends back before you had kids, and it seemed like the day would never end? You had all the time in the world, and being there, in that moment was the most important thing at the time. You could just laugh and relax as if you had nothing to worry about? That’s the feel we’re going for. We want to provide you with a charming afternoon to just chill.
Food: Snacks don’t have to be a requirement for all Sunday Fundays, but ours will have them! The chef at the JBar is whipping up some light bites just for you, so you know it’s going to be delicious!
Fun and games: Obviously, the word FUN is part of a Sunday Funday! Now, I’m a huge fan of games of all kinds. I’ll definitely have games available, but we aren’t making it any kind of requirement. We’ll have conversation starters, in case you feel awkward about talking with new people. We’ll have roving conversationalists, whose job it is to ensure everyone is feeling comfortable and meeting people. Singles tables are a thing here, so if you didn’t come with a friend, no worries! We’ll seat you with others who are also coming to make new friends!
What to wear: This is entirely up to you! What do you feel comfortable in? Sarah, of Crafty + Wife will be selling graphic tees, and wearing one of her cute creations. I’m wearing a Quad City Moms Blog tee shirt and something that doesn’t constrict my waist fat on the bottom. A lot of moms love to put their hair up in a bun when they’re relaxing and I’m just the opposite! I can’t wait to get mine down at the end of the day.
Whatever you wear, however you do your make up, or hair, will be perfect. I want this event to be all about comfort and connection, conversation and calming restoration.
What to bring: Definitely bring a budget to buy something from Crafty + Wife. You are not going to be able to resist her sweet décor or wearable graphics, and I guarantee you’re going to want to take something home!
Bring your phone so you can add in the numbers of new friends or friend them on Facebook so you can stay in touch after Sunday FUNday is over. Bring an adventurous spirit: play games if you want and be brave to talk with new people.
Goals: My hope is that Sunday FUNday will be a respite for moms of the Quad Cities. I hope you leave feeling relaxed, satisfied and comfortable. I’d love for you to feel more content and confident in your life and more connected to each other and the community. And most of all, I hope you have fun!
