Join WQPT and QC Moms for some FREE family fun at the drive in!
WQPT will host some free family fun in the form of a preview of The Age of Nature at the Bluegrass Drive-In Theater this Thursday October 8th at 7:00pm.AfterThe Age of Nature, if you can stay awake, stay and watch the movie Twister on the big screen! Everyone who attends this event will receive a free stainless steel water bottle and other cool swag when they stop by the WQPT table near the screen.
Mr. Rogers spoke some memorable advice when he told us years ago, “Look for the helpers. You will always find people who are helping.” In 2020, this couldn’t be more true. This year, we’ve found helpers in grocery stores, healthcare facilities, and countless other places as the world fights COVID. We’ve found helpers peacefully advocating for equality amidst all the civil unrest this summer. And after the Derecho that hit us in August, we found helpers again – this time, it was our own neighbors lending a hand to one another to clean up after the storm.
The derecho, especially for me, opened my eyes to how many “helpers” there are. I think I saw almost every one of my neighbors out helping each other for days (and weeks) after the storm! Whether it was people rolling up their sleeves and putting on their work gloves to clear sticks and debris, or pulling out their chainsaws and wheelbarrows to remove whole trees, I saw countless neighbors helping neighbors clean up the destruction that was left behind after Mother Nature showed her incredible power.
Nature is really amazing, isn’t it? From storms and volcanoes, to rivers to oceans, we live on a remarkable planet. In many ways, our lives are governed by the rules of Nature, and seeing it unleash its power here in August will hopefully help us all realize its true value – and the role we play in it.
Later this month, WQPT will air a 3-part film called The Age of Nature. This film brings together inspirational contributors, rare archive material, and stunning imagery from around the world, to give us a deeper understanding of Nature and our place within it. You won’t want to miss this opportunity for some free family fun! The best part about the film is that it focuses on the “helpers.”
This inspiring series will ask and answer some key questions, such as:
- What have our past mistakes taught us about nature?
- How is our understanding of nature changing the way we live?
- As the challenges we face mount, where are we heading next?
Just as my eyes were opened after the derecho, I was truly humbled when I saw a preview of the film. It helped me remember that everything is connected, and by helping to restore Nature, we all benefit – humans and animals alike.
