Embracing The Real You

Now I know many of us have started resolutions to lose weight in 2023 and as noble a cause as that is, let me throw out a radical and unconventional idea. One might call it revolutionary even. Ladies put down the laundry baskets and step away from the dirty dishes because it’s time for a much-needed break! Today, we’re going to talk about the hottest trend that’s sweeping the nation: “mom-bod” acceptance. That’s right, moms everywhere are finally realizing that it’s okay to have a little extra fluff around the middle, curves around the hips, and yes, even the dreaded back fat because, let’s face it, being a mom is hard work!

Mom-Bod

First of all, let’s talk about the term “mom-bod.” According to urban dictionary, a mom-bod is defined as “a woman who has had a child and still has a slightly flabby tummy and possibly a few extra pounds, but is still attractive.” Yes, STILL ATTRACTIVE! Now, I don’t know about you, but I think that’s a pretty accurate description. The truth is, we moms are busy people. We’re juggling work, kids, pets, and a household, all while trying to maintain some semblance of sanity (which I’m convinced I never had). So, when it comes to our bodies, we don’t always have the time or energy to hit the gym, count calories or zumba.

But you know what? That’s okay! Our bodies have done something truly amazing: they’ve grown and birthed human beings. That’s no small feat, and it deserves to be celebrated! So, instead of feeling ashamed of our mom-bods, let’s embrace them. Let’s wear that bikini at the pool, even if our stomachs aren’t perfectly flat. Let’s put on those tight jeans, even if they’re a little snug in the waist. And let’s stop hiding behind baggy shirts and start showing off those well-earned curves!

Now, I know some of you might be thinking, “But what about the dads? They don’t have to put up with the mom-bod label!” And you’re right, they don’t. But let’s be real, dads have it easy. They can eat whatever they want and not gain a pound. They can go days without showering and still look presentable. Meanwhile, us moms are constantly fighting the battle of the bulge. So, let’s cut ourselves some slack and give our bodies a break! Now I’m not advocating inhaling a whole cheesecake until you’re comatosed, but what I am saying is that you ought to love the body you are in at any stage. You got nowhere else to go anyway.

We all know being a mom is hard work, and our bodies have earned the right to have a little extra fluff, a little Je ne sais quoi. So, let’s embrace our mom-bods and celebrate the amazing things our bodies have done. Remember, a mom-bod is a badge of honor, not something to be ashamed of. So, let’s raise a glass (or a bottle of wine) to all the moms out there, and cheers to the mom-bod!
