KeKAY Curriculum

They use play-based learning using the KeKAY Curriculum. Each week they visit a new country; learn new languages and cultures; and use a letter and number of the week. Each day there is a movement class such as dance, yoga, or sports incorporated.

Everything is focused on children learning through play NOT being rewarded with play when their learning is done.

A typical day with the KéKAY Method starts with a greeting from your teacher with the language of the day. They teach the greeting of the most spoken language in the country that they will “visit” on the “travels” that week.

Several stations are set up as the students enter the classroom. The composer of the week is playing in the background. The students can read, build with blocks, or can choose from other activities until all of the friends arrive.

The good morning song happens on the yoga mats with the classroom puppet, ‘Jabulani’. He helps the class sing as they go through the:

  • color, shape, number and letter of the week
  • composer of the week
  • country and language of the week

The class will learn basic dance steps as Jabulani jokes around and tells stories so the students can use their imagination as they travel to new countries! Basic sports skills such as balancing, strength, and coordination will be taught and the games include using the parachute, magic fairy dust, plenty of balls, hoops, and songs. There is always movement while learning, spelling and singing!

While singing, the teachers talk about the mindfulness theme of the week. When all the fun is over and the students have learned everything for the day, it is time to sing the goodbye song.
